BR&E Report

Business Retention and Expansion Report for Point Place

The Point Place BR&E Task Force, along with Joe Lucente of the Ohio State University Extension and the Ohio Sea Grant College Program, is pleased to release the Final Report of the Point Place BR&E Program for 2013. This has been a collaborative effort, and is based on surveys and analysis of the survey results.

The PPBA thanks Joe Lucente, Len Syrek, Bob Pulhuj, Bob Kneisley, Eric Damask, Dale Rupert, Paul Pacholski, and all the others who spent countless hours compiling and analyzing the information about Point Place businesses.

Monthly meeting Wednesday, September 18

This month’s meeting is at Bay View Yacht Club, located at 3902 N Summit St. It’s been awhile since we’ve met there – we thank Bay View for having us this month!

Kelly’s Catering will be providing our food. The cost of the meal is free for members, and $10 for guests. Call 419-729-0733 (CrossPoint Church) or email ppbaonline@gmail.com to reserve your spot(s).

Meeting begins at 6:00 pm with dinner served at 6:30.

We have a special speaker of interest to all businesses in Point Place. Joe Lucente, from the Ohio State Extension Office in Lucas County, will be bringing a report about our business community that he has been working on for quite some time, focusing on business retention and expansion.

Sandpiper Cruise in August

Instead of our regular August meeting, we are having a river/bay cruise on the Sandpiper!

The cruise will take place on Wednesday, August 28. We begin boarding promptly at 6:45 pm, and leave the dock at 7:00. This will be a lovely evening cruise operated by PPBA member Mary Dalby and her Sandpiper boat.

The cost is only $15 for members, and $20 for guests. This includes both your cruise and a light meal.

The Sandpiper is docked at Promenade Park at Jefferson and Water Streets in downtown Toledo. Come early to make sure you find a place to park and get on board on time.

This month’s general meeting of the PPBA will be at Toledo Yacht Club (3900 N. Summit Street). This will be a special meeting where the Scholarship Foundation will award college scholarships to several deserving high school seniors from Point Place.

Kelly’s Catering will be providing the meal. Cost is free for PPBA members, and $10 for guests. Let us know you’re coming by sending an email to ppbaonline@gmail.com. The meeting begins at 6:00 pm.

We need your help to make this year’s Easter Egg Hunt a big success. Monetary donations are always welcome and will be used to purchase prizes for the children. Donations can be anything from a filled Easter basket, stuffed animal, game or toy. We also accept gift certificates that would be appropriate for a child or family for restaurants, toys, bowling, miniature golf, etc.

A donation of your time is also needed and appreciated. Many volunteers are needed the day of the Easter Egg Hunt. Feel free to bring family members and friends to help. Please be at Friendship Park by 8:30 am.

The PPBA Easter Egg Hunt is one of the oldest and largest in the Toledo area. It is because of your generous support over the years that it is such a success. We have had up to 1,000 people attending in past years. Over 700 prizes and handouts are given out including candy from our very own Easter Bunny. Over 1,600 plastic eggs filled with candy are spread throughout the park. Every child walks away with a prize. There are several Grand Prizes hidden in eggs in each of the five age groups.

If you have any questions or need a donation to be picked up, please call me at the number below. Donations can also be brought to the PPBA Dinner Meeting on March 20 or dropped at Rite Aid, 4869 N. Summit St. Please mark your donations to “The Attention of Nancy Anderson.” Checks should be made payable to PPBA Easter Egg Hunt and can be mailed to P.O. Box 5074, Toledo, OH 43611. Please mark outside of envelope for Easter Egg Hunt.

Thank you again for your generosity and help in the past and we know we can count on you again this year to make this a great Easter Egg Hunt for the children of our Point Place Community.

Scholarships for High School Seniors

For over 30 years the PPBA has awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships to high school seniors from the Point Place area. The Foundation was formed to raise money and accept donations for this purpose. A Golf Scramble held in September each year is the main fundraiser for the foundation.

The PPBA Scholarship Foundation does not discriminate regarding race, religion or gender. Members of PPBA and their immediate families are not eligible for the scholarships. Students attending any high school or that are home schooled are eligible. Only residents residing in zip code 43611 will be considered.
