Two great events are happening this week in Point Place:

Sixth Annual Tribute to The Troops

  • “Support our troops” rally at Friendship Park on 131st St. in Point Place
  • Wednesday, September 8, 2010
  • 6-8 pm at Friendship Park
  • Jerry Anderson of TV-11 will be the Master of Ceremonies
  • Hot dogs, chips, and other refreshment will be on sale beginning at 5 pm at the Friendship Park Community Center
  • Come show your support for our troops!

PPBA Scholarship Foundation Golf Outing

  • 15th annual golf outing to raise funds for the PPBA Scholarship Foundation
  • Friday, September 10, 2010
  • Detwiler Golf Club on Summit St. in Point Place
  • All the proceeds go directly to fund college scholarships for deserving high school seniors in our Point Place area.
  • Corporate hole sponsorships are available for any Toledo area business
  • This is our major source of funding for the scholarship foundation, so let’s all support this event!
  • You can also donate raffle prizes

  • 11:00 am registration, 12:00 noon shotgun start, 5:00 pm prime rib dinner
  • Cost is $75 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf, motorized cart, and prime rib dinner! The dinner is also available for non-golfers for $25 per person.

Clem Cybulski awarded Lifetime Member of PPBA

At its July 21 meeting, the Point Place Business Association voted unanimously to make Clement (Clem) Cybulski a Lifetime Member of the PPBA.  This is one of the highest honors given to members that have been dues paying members for at least five years.  Mr. Cybulski has also done outstanding service to the association and community.

Clem has been a resident of Point Place since he was a young boy in 1947.  He fell in love with the community and has made Point Place home most of his life.  He has the vision of Point Place being the #1 boating resort destination in Northwest Ohio.  He has been a member of PPBA since 1994 serving two terms as president, treasurer, publicity chairperson and a board member for many years.  He has been involved in many activities and committees including Point Place Days, Easter Egg Hunt, Economic Development and Scholarship Foundation.   He has done video recordings and produced slide shows of many events in the community, many times funding projects on his own.  He led a letter-writing petition drive, protest and media blitz that helped save our Point Place Post Office from being closed. He has been named PPBA Business Member of The Year several times and has been given many other awards and honors.  Clem is a kind and genuine man who makes anyone he meets feel like a life long friend.

Vee Stader, a long time PPBA Life Member made the nomination and was supported by all in attendance.  Gary Anderson, PPBA President, made the announcement to Clem, congratulated and thanked him for his outstanding service to the business association and our community.

Scholarship Foundation Golf Outing on September 10

Our 15th annual PPBA Scholarship Foundation Golf Outing is on Friday, September 10, 2010 at Detwiler Golf Club in Point Place. The proceeds of this great outing go directly to fund college scholarships for deserving high school seniors in our area.

This is the only source of funding for the scholarship foundation, so let’s all support this event!

Corporate hole sponsorships are available (forms due August 31, 2010).

11:00 am Registration
12:00 noon Shotgun start
5:00 pm Black Pearl Prime Rib Dinner

The cost is only $75 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf, motorized cart, and prime rib dinner! The dinner is also available for non-golfers for $25 per person.

PPBA General Membership Meeting on the Sandpiper

The monthly PPBA general meeting for August will be Wednesday, August 18, 2010 on board the Sandpiper.

Boarding begins at 6:45 pm  and we leave promptly at 7:00 pm.

There is a Mudhen’s Home Game that evening so we suggest carpooling and arriving early.

The Sandpiper’s dock is located near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Summit street, in Promenade Park, in downtown Toledo.

Reservations are required and the trip must be prepaid. RSVP to  by Wednesday  August 11,  2010 to Lynn Boden at 419-727-0728. Cost: $15 for all paid members for the boat ride, and $25 for honorary members and/or guests for dinner and the boat ride. Pizza, Snacks, Soda and Water will be provided.

“Save Our Bay” Public Meeting

Public Meeting Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 7:30 pm

The Army Corp of Engineers stationed in Buffalo, NY has recently proposed the creation of wetlands by establishing dikes 2,000 feet out in the Maumee Bay directly behind the Point Place Gateway Lighthouse location and adjacent to Cullen Park. The proposed wetlands are in conflict with existing efforts, including plans that are presently in motion, to improve Cullen Park and the surrounding area. The citizens of our area have alternate plans for the area dating back to 1984.

An informational meeting concerning this proposal will be held on Tuesday, June 29 at 7:30 p.m. It will be held at Friendship Park Community Center, 2930 131st Street in Point Place

A representative from the Army Corps of Engineers will present the proposal to the community.

All area residents are invited to attend the meeting.

There is a petition circulating asking to prevent the Army Corps of Engineers from creating these proposed wetlands. You can sign the petition by stopping by the Friendship Park Community Center prior to June 29.

Come out to Cullen Park this Friday – there are lots of things to do!

Barbecue

Kelly’s Catering will be providing mouth-watering barbecue from 4-8 pm

Quack Race

At 5 pm we will be having the big Quack Race, where 2,000 ducks will be competing in the water. There is still time to buy tickets for this fund-raiser. Tickets are available at Flag Sales and Repair, Curves, and CrossPoint Community Church. Prizes include: 32″ HD television, Wii System, and a free membership to Curves for one year!

Canoe Race

At 6 pm we will be having our annual canoe race. Teams of two will be competing tournament-style. Cost is $10 per team. Come early to register, or come just to watch!
